This is my first Monstera, and it recently started drooping — I’m not sure why 😭 • I water about every 7ish days, once the top 2–3 inches of soil feel dry. • It’s in a chunky, well-draining soil mix made for tropical plants. • I fertilize with worm castings. • I repotted about 2 weeks ago, roots looked great. • It used to sit in a west-facing window, but I recently moved it under a grow light for 10 hours daily, as I was worried the afternoon sun was too harsh on the white parts. The leaves started drooping about 4 days ago (before I moved it under the grow light) and are now starting to get slightly brown on the ends, which makes me think I might be doing something wrong. Help 😵‍💫

It looks like she’s pulling away from the light. It may be too much light.

This was my thought too! I kind of just wanted confirmation that was likely the issue and not watering. I definitely think the West facing window was getting too much harsh light in the afternoons. Do you think the grow light will be good to help it recover or should I do an East facing window?

I think you’ll be good with either but be careful with how close she is to a grow light 🥰🌿

I don't have this kind of monstera but I know that mine prefers even more drying out then only a few inches especially in a larger pot

I agree with Tracy Lee it's probably too much light. In their natural state, Monstera's don't have direct light because they sit below other trees and plants. Either turn down the light or move it to a natural light source, but not direct light. It should perk back up. Also the pot looks a little shallow from the picture, it may need somethinga bit deeper to dig its roots down into.

I definitely think the West facing window was getting too much harsh light in the afternoons. I did just move it under the grow light about four days ago, this issue happened previous to that. I do think the pot is probably just the picture perception. I replanted it about three weeks ago into this larger pot. The pot is about 6 inches around and 8 inches deep.

Cool. Maybe you can put up curtains or something sheer to cover the windows so it's more filtered light. I have 3 Monstera's in front of a window with blinds so that helps to diffuse the light and they love it.

I’m not sure about the light theory but I would caution about using some plant mix for tropicals. Some are fine but I had a hell of a time trying to get my monstera to look happy in miracle grow’s tropical mix. I just switched to 1/3 perlite, 1/3 fox farms ocean floor soil (has worm casings), and 1/3 chunky bark (I used orchid bark but some people were recommending coco). I also threw in a DIY moss pole and my monstera over night perked up. They tend to be sensitive to root rot and unhappy in soil that doesn’t allow it to breathe so the extra chunky mix can help a lot. They also can be sensitive to replants too so maybe she’s just being a diva about her new pot.
