I have had this monstera for about a year now. I water it, mist and fertilize according to the app. And I’m noticing this. The top layer is dry and the soil at the bottom is damp. What is going on? I used the diagnostic thing and it said it was being over watered. It also looks like something has been eating it. I keep it sitting 1ft from a window on a table. It is still producing new leaves.

It looks like overwatering to me too. I’ve seen quite a few people post that the app is… enthusiastic about watering. I always check with a water meter and if that seems a bit confused, with a wooden skewer. Don’t just water according to the app, it doesn’t know your plant personally! Re something eating it, tbh it doesn’t look like that to me, just some wear and tear. But, do you see any bugs hanging around it or on the underside of the leaves? Depending on how long it’s been like this, I’d suggest checking the roots for rot.

I haven’t noticed any bugs. I’m getting ready to repot it soon! It has out grown it!

I can’t see the full plant clearly but it seems like a pretty large pot already, and a larger pot means more risk of overwatering. You know your plant best but if you see that the roots still have room, it may be worth simply changing out the soil and leaving the same pot (grow tropicals does a good Montsera soil mix).

Some people swear by it, but I’ve stopped misting any of my plants. I’ll mist the area or turn on a humidifier, but I found sitting droplets on my leaves weren’t good. It caused similar brown spots on my leaves and caused the yellow spots on the outside of the leaves (fungus). It also seems your soil is too dense. There are a few solutions. You could try aerating your soil. I had similar issues with a some plants I bought early on in my career. The pot they were in was a weird shape and had compacted the soil. I just occasionally use a pair of chopsticks and poke “holes” in the soul, almost like one would. You could also “repot” the plant into the same container, but with a chunkier soil mix and less packed into the pot.

If your pot has to much water the plant releases excess water through the leafs
