Separated my Albo on the weekend they were originally one plant that got chopped a couple months ago. The top cut had been living off the moss pole while the base was established in the substrate. Recently both pushed new leaves at the same time and started competing for space, so it was time to split them properly. The top now has its own pot and pole, and the base has been given its own pole to start climbing. Checked the tent today and was genuinely surprised the base has already thrown out a thick aerial root and anchored into the moss in just 4 days 😍 Super keen to see how this one develops now that it’s got its own space to climb.

Dude I’m just about to chop my 6 foot tall albo too! It has established itself in the moss pole and I’m about to make my cuts and then wait again before separating… How would you go about the roots that have climbed literally up and throughout once you separate? I fell like I’m going to have to take apart the entire moss pole..😅

Carefully untangle it bro hahaha, just take your time and be gentle with it. A few broken roots here and there won’t matter too much, but you want to separate everything as cleanly as possible, especially the sections that have rooted right through the pole. If it’s really locked in, give the pole a good soak first it softens the moss and helps release the roots way easier. Work slowly from the outside in rather than pulling from one spot, and if some roots are fully embedded through the pole don’t be afraid to sacrifice a bit of moss instead of ripping them out. If something really won’t budge, just make a clean cut rather than forcing it. You don’t have to completely destroy the pole, but yeah realistically you’ll probably end up breaking parts of it apart where it’s heavily rooted 😅 Albo will bounce back quick though, especially if you keep as many aerial roots intact as possible. After you separate it, just keep humidity up and ease off the light for a few days while it settles and it’ll come good 👌

It’s like a pet peeve of mine when I get rooted plants in the mail in moss & theyve been growing in it for months😂

Looks super healthy, it sucks because you always want to keep the top cut but they sell the best so we’re stuck with the base😂 It does have its perks because it contains the original variegation and “makeup”.. The cuts are on their own now, to makeup anything after that, reverting, variegation staying stable, etc..😂

I kept both the base and the top base pushed the half moon and the top pushed the more white leaf at the same time I will keep both as mothers and let them push another 6 months before thinking about taking cuttings

Update: That chunky bit I thought was an aerial root… turns out it’s actually a new leaf 🤦🏾‍♂️😂 After a closer look I realised what it was and gently pulled it out of the moss pole😂 Didn’t even click at first because the last half moon only unfurled about 2 weeks ago, so I wasn’t expecting another leaf this soon especially after separating them and messing with the roots last weekend. Safe to say she didn’t sulk at all… bounced back quick and is absolutely thriving 👌🌱
