This poor fellow needs a pot upgrade come spring and a much larger moss pole! Should the moss pole be on the opposite side? Also on a side note: aerial roots are so neat!! Thanks

    You can keep it on that side and just use it for support! I wouldn’t recommend using these they embed themselves and become one with the pole and it makes repotting a nightmare! If you’re set on a moss pole, you could add a diy one and attach it on the next root! Watch Sydney plant guy on YouTube for an in depth video:))

    Hi! I would recommend putting the pole on the other side for support. In nature monsteras will climb up tress and walls by attaching their aerial roots. From the picture you’ve shared the aerial roots are growing opposite the direction of your pole when you actually want them growing toward it. Don’t worry about the roots growing into the pole (unless you do a moss pole). I have mine on a cedar plank and it is doing really well.

      So now I'm fairly confused. I thought we wanted the aerial roots to attach to the pole? So should I remove mine and just use wood (i.e. plank or branch)?

      Hi Tiffany! So it is up to personal preference. I use a wood plank because it is lower maintenance and I like the aesthetic a bit more for my monstera. Some people choose to use moss poles because the roots will latch and grow into them. I have a pothos that is set up on a moss pole and thriving right now. So it is really whatever you decide either way as long as the plant is being directed to grow upward it will grow bigger in size and keep a fairly nice shape. Another reason I don’t put my monsteras on moss poles is because their aerial roots are so intense/aggressive that if I do a moss pole for it the plant will grow quicker and bigger in shorter time (which my current space could not handle) and the roots would easily fill the pole in not time which would be a bit difficult to unhook the plant from. Although even with time a monstera will latch onto anything it is allowed to climb up. Sorry if this is any more confusing! Just a lot of what I have noticed works
