To do the big chop, or not to do the big chop? I’ve had my monstera about 2 years now and it was maybe 12” when I got it. Since I’ve given it a trellis and a bigger pot, it has put out large leaves like crazy! It even outgrew the grow light. It’ll be very hot to warm here for at least 8 more weeks so I can put it outside if I want. The question is, do I do “the big chop” now or wait till next year’s growing season? This is my first monstera, so of course the idea of The Chop is kinda terrifying! 🫣 Please ignore the mess in the photo. My house is undergoing a renovation so everything is out of sorts.

    I don't think it needs to be in a bigger pot. And you can chop if you want to but usually when that happens they focus on their roots instead of leaves (in my experience anyways) but if you was 2 of them then chop it. But i wouldn't if you want a big plant

      Mostly I’m looking at how it’s so disproportionate from the bottom to top. She got big mad when she was moved from my fiancé’s place to mine and dropped a bunch of lower leaves.

    I’d chop it now and get started on the reset. It definitely needs more light than it’s getting. Plant is kinda leggy.

      Unfortunately due to the placement of my house, this window is the most consistent/brightest light. Do you have a favorite grow light?

      I bought some on an Instagram special called Th****. The big one that I needed has no way to stand it up except to stick it in the soil of the pot. But then it’s too close to the leaves. I got some others that clip to the plant’s pot and for me they work out better. I’m going to attach the big one to the wall with brackets for my Monstera.
