Hey! I have purchased a baby monstera amydrium and just wanted a little bit of advice to make sure I’m not killing it🫣. I have it in my little indoor greenhouse and I’m unsure if its getting either too much humidity or too much light. The edges of the leafs have started to turn a little black. It does get quite direct sunlight at the start of the day with light from a south east and south facing windows. Should I maybe move it somewhere a bit more shaded? I have tucked it behind some other plants if that helps? (Last picture just to show the light conditions -don’t mind my cats collection of boxes😂)

How recently did you get it? It could still be “settling in”. Keeping it tucked behind some bigger plants is a good idea. I would wait a few days before moving it to a different area just to see if that helps. My other thought would be watering. I don’t know much about that type of monstera, but it might be worth looking into if they are sensitive to anything like lime in the water. It might also be a good idea to pop off the pot and peak at the roots. Just to make sure they aren’t showing any warning signs of rot, or severally pot bound. (I love that your cat has a collection of boxes and keeps them near the tower so they can be surveyed 🐈 📦)

I only got it last Friday and it was sent via post so that could certainly be the culprit🤔. I reported it as soon as it arrived as it was in a tiny 3” pot so changed to a 6” pot with chunky mix I use for my monsteras and gave a little water. -no signs or root rot from what I can see at the moment. Here’s hoping I haven’t just signed myself up for a fussy plant the needs distilled water🥲. My spare bedroom is literally a shrine to cardboard boxes because they love them so much. We have to keep two here because they fight over it if there’s only one😂.

I would give it some time to settle in. It might just be shock due to being shipped & repotting. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you that it’s not a fussy distilled water plant. 😜 🤞🏻 I love cats, they are so delightfully weird. My girl, Dory, prefers things that crinkle to boxes. I used to have to keep paper bags around for her to climb in back in her younger years.

Wow if I had such big windows and unobstructed views like you, I’d have alllllllllll the plants 😂!

I wish I could! Although my partner has vetoed me turning the house into a jungle (He’s blissfully unaware that many plants have arrived while he’s at work and been hidden in plain sight nearly every week😅)

Those windows! 🤩 I would get a little self conscious that people could see in, being the ultra shy person I am. But I also absolutely want windows like that for my plants 😂 Curtain made of plants perhaps? 😜 I also love the courtesy cat pic 🥰 I agree with the others that it might have been cause by travel/settling in stress. I was curious about your hydrometer reading though. Is that 30% and 73 degrees F or 73% and 30 degrees C?

At the start the freaked me out but now I’m not bothered most of the time. We’re on the top floor so from outside people can only see if your walking arrow quite close to the window, we shut the curtains one the lights go on to prevent anyone seeing in. I did try to convince my partner to let my hand all my hanging plants there but that was a firm no🥲. The top is the temperature 30C and the bottom was the humidity after I had gave the plants a mist although it generally sits about 50-60 for humidity.

Sorry that was full of typos😂

That makes sense! Don’t you hate it when partners want a say in plant business? Lol kidding. It’s important to compromise! Okay that sounds good! My brain is trained for Fahrenheit lol so I was concerned it was only 30% humidity 😂

It’s the worst😂! We have reached a compromise for the empty space at the big windows though. - He wanted an egg chair which I was firmly opposed to however, I found a lovely two piece curved plant stand which could go around the egg chair making it less awful =both getting what we want! Him a chair he will ultimately lose to the cats and more plant space for me✨. The alocasia in there would for sure be throwing a tantrum at 30% humidity 😂.

it looks like the pot may be too big for the plant. monstera like to be snug in their pots like a succulent, i always choose the smallest pot possible for monstera. the humidity being so high may also be causing issues especially if there aren’t fans running in your cabinet

It was in a much smaller pot when it arrived (3”) although it was a bit top heavy and was falling over in that. The smallest pot I had was 6” although the roots were quite established and slightly rootboud in the small pot so I’m hoping it can adapt🤞🏻. I have a small fan at the bottom which runs most off the day however, I need to take it out to recharge it for a few hours while. Thats just temporary I wait for the lend of a Dremel to make a hole for leads to come through to put one in that can just stay in all day.
