Hey! I am considering getting a moss pole for my monstera because its leaves have been growing smaller and less healthy and I want it to flourish. There is one I have been eyeing that I found on amazon. It is one that you add the moss into yourself and it is plastic. Two questions. 1. What exactly should I put inside of the pole? Peat moss? Sphagnum moss? Or something else? 2. Any recommendations for a moss pole or is this one good? ( Srry for the bad quality photo! 😬)

You can do sphagnum moss or cocoa coir. I think most use sphagnum moss

A diy will save you so much money in the long run if you have enough plants

i really wouldn’t recommend a moss pole for monstera deliciosa. they’re not intended for such fast growing, sturdy plants like monstera. a large stake, stick, trellis, or board is more appropriate. if your leaves are growing smaller, while it might help, support may not be the answer. a plant’s leaves will reduce in size if it is rootbound or not getting enough light or nutrients. check to make sure your plant has some more room to grow in its pot, and that it’s getting appropriate light. monstera are also heavy feeders and appreciate a weak fertilizer dose with every watering.

Oh ok greatly appreciated, should I then use a moss pole for my other monstera? I have it propped up with a steak rn bc it was falling over and I wanted it to continue growing upwards.

you’re very welcome. a moss pole should work okay for monstera adansonii, since they’re more petite. however, these monsters grow really fast when provided with proper light, water, and nutrients, especially if they’re given support, so you may have to expand the moss pole as often as every month, or cut the plant back routinely.
