So I was lucky enough to find this massive friend on facebook marketplace but it is WAY larger than is reasonable for me to put in any one spot in my pretty small place. Any advice on when the best time is to go about splitting it into two pots, and how I might go about doing that?

  1. Leaf🌱

You can chop it and propagate it and maybe trim some of the aerial roots

Thanks! Is there a time of year that would be better to do this?

You propagate by cutting in the middle Of the internode which is the space between both nodes and then you Can put it in water and wait for it to get roots and you have a new plant

hi! if i were you, i would cut off both upper parts with leaves and either pot them in 2 separate pots or put them together. cut a few nodes below the lowest/oldest leaf, and propgate in water. i belive you should be able to save the lower stems and they will grow more baby plants. i would definately recommend trimming all those extra roots that dont fit in the pot. keep the coco coir poles with the chopped parts, and when they eventually go back into soil, they will be helpful in getting the plant to climb upwards. i would make sure that the "back" of the plant is up against the coir pole, and attach with some twine or velcro strips. this is best way to support the plant - you can see on the left plant that it's next to the pole, which isnt really providing any support. good luck with this!

Thas a beast! You do not have to wait for spring. I'd chop the top portions off and repot them. And then cut up the nodes down to almost the butt. And prop them in some moss. And then you can sell/give them or have a jungle. Then you'd have two plants, plus the original bases will grow back.

Thank you! Would you go ahead and chop the whole thing at once or do it one at a time just in case?

Follow up question for you lovelies. I just moved it to my house last week (it was about -5 Celsius) so it may be experiencing a bit of shock from that. Should I let it stabilize for a while longer or just go ham while it’s already in recovery mode anyway?
