My Monstera adansonii looks quite sad. This is over the course of 3ish days. Soil is damp. No pests. Haven’t moved it. Have included root photos, as I have never seen green root growth before and hope someone can explain it to me. Thanks for any advice/thoughts.

I cant tell much from the root picture other than it looks a bit soggy. Green in the roots can simply be new healthy roots or it can be a sign of some type of unwanted growth (algae, fungus). Monsteras can get unwanted growths and yellow leaves from overwatering the plant. If you don’t think you’re overwatering, maybe a soil with a bit higher flow is a good idea. The yellow leaf needs removed, sadly, that is the end of that leaves life.

Thank you. There may be a chance of overwatering, but I religiously check plants moisture before watering, rather than adhering to a strict schedule. I’ll repot with a better soil mixture-it is in the pot/soil from where I purchased it. Thanks again.

What is your technique for checking the plants moisture before watering? Also no problem!

I do not have a moisture meter-which I know I should probably get (anyone have a favorite I should consider?). Anyway, I first check with my fingers and I then check with a dry bamboo stick. I also check through the holes at the bottom going upward. This is why I thought I was pretty certain not overwatered. I know there is room for operator errorđŸ€·â€â™€ïžđŸ˜łđŸ˜Š

The ways that you are using are known to work very well, but maybe a moisture meter will be more reliable for your plants situation, like the soil that it sits in and where is it placed in your home. Amazon has ones that are rated pretty well, but some might be too long for your pot. I would search there for one that is rated over 4.4 stars. Your pot might also be too small, forcing water to sit with the roots instead of spreading out into the soil. Hopefully any of this helps at all, good luck!

Prior to reading this I’d been scrolling Amazon and decided on the Long XLUX probe to purchase. If you, or anyone has an opinion on this choice, let me know while it’s just sitting in my cart. I also repotted into a 6/7 inch pot (had been in a 4 inch). I had regular potting soil, cactus/succulent soil, perlite and orch bark chips. I mixed all that up to an airier mixture than what I found in the pot that it was growing in. I thought that would help the soil to dry out better. Hope I’ve done the right thing-I’ll batch and see. Thank you for all the guidance!
