New Plant Mom

***Help*** I’ve recently purchased some Monsteras and I really want to keep them alive. The app says they either have too much light or too little light and now my Monstera is drooping. I have a Monstera (purchased from local nursery and repotted there a week ago) and Monstera Albo (once propagated and now potted. Got her about a week ago). Both are 5ft away from an East facing window and the Thai Constellation (purchased from Walmart two days ago) about 5ft from a North facing window. I also purchased some grow lights but I don’t know how to properly place them so the leaves don’t burn or how long to keep it on for. Any advice or suggestions will be so helpful and appreciated so this new plant mom doesn’t kill her plants again. Any care tips or what worked for you, please let me know.

You definitely want to get the Thai constellation more light. North facing windows receive the least amount of light and you have it about 5ft away… you also want to get the albo closer to the east facing window. The regular monstera should be good where she is. Before I moved I had mine 5ft from an east facing window and she grew huge! Also, if you’ve only had em for a week and they’re drooping, it may just be them getting acclimated to your home. I say give em another week to perk up, then adjust as needed.

Thank you for that amazing advice. I just moved the plants you suggested to their new location. Does the air vent cause any issues for the plants? It’s on the floor below the east facing window and I don’t know if the air hitting the plants will be a problem. I guess I can move the plant out of the direct draft about three feet away from the window. Will that be close enough for both albo and Thai constellation or do they need to be closer?

The air hitting the plants will definitely be a problem so you want to get them out of any direct drafts. Oh the struggle of finding the perfect placement for the plant babies lol… I just moved to a place that has far less light than my old place and I’m also trying to figure out what’s going to be best for my 40+ plants 😩

I currently have one Thai constellation 2ft away from a south facing window, but I highly doubt it’s staying there.

i haven't burned any of my monsteras with grow lights *yet*! i have the grow lights about 2-3 feet above them, & it's been keeping my 5 monsteras happy for the winter so far! & honestly, i've been forgetting to turn off the lights at night... but no burns yet! (also, you might want to wipe down the leaves of the bigger monstera, it helps them get more light!!!)

Thank you for that information. I’ll set up my grow lights around 2-3 feet above them and will wipe down my leaves right now. :)

My Thai con I just got from Walmart was potted in pure peat. It will hold onto moisture, so the plant could easily develop root rot. You might want to be careful about watering until it’s in a soil with better drainage and aeration, especially in lower-light conditions where it will take longer to dry out.

Thank you for that advice! I’ll get it repotted today so it doesn’t get root rot!!

You have to be careful that plants are trying to adapt to your space so you don’t want to be moving repotting, all at the same time or within days

That’s good to know! I’ll make sure not to repot them so quickly next time. I’ll stop moving them around too. Thank you!
