Hello all I am Xavier and this is Herman my Monstera mint, I’ve had a few other plants in the past, a Cana Lilly, a banana plant and an elephant ear. Sadly I had to depart with them and now I am starting over with this one, if anyone has any advice or tips that’d be greatly appreciate as this is my very first monstera (hopefully not my last)
What a beauty 😍 you’re going to love watching Herman grow. Monsteras love light, I’ve got all mine under grow lights & they are super happy. They also love oxygen around their roots, so a good chunky soil mix is critical. They prefer to be root bound, so be sure the pot is only an inch or two bigger than the root ball & don’t repot until the root ball becomes more roots than soil & looks like a pack of ramen. They like to dry out in between waterings. I like to use a chopstick to check moisture in my plants, for a monstera I’d water when a chopstick comes out dry after you put it halfway down the pot; and then when you do water you thoroughly drench it. And lastly I’d get myself a plant food/fertilizer & follow the instructions on how often to use it, these guys like to eat. Eventually you’ll want to support it with a stake at some point, but it’s not there yet, so you can cross that bridge when you get there. Congrats! 💚
