Hi all, new plant owner here. I got this monstera from trader joes and it’s been on the decline. I feel like it’s getting enough sunlight but its soil is always dry. Its leaves are curled and turning down. Im pretty consistent with the water/ fertilizer schedule. Has it become hydrophobic? How can i save it?

It looks like it possibly could be the way it's pulling away from the sides of the pot. Set it down in water and let it soak it up until the top is moist. The soil does not look like a very well draining soil either, you might consider repotting in better more well draining soil.

Thank you! I did this today and seemed to help get more water in

    I'd would do a repot

Definitely a repot and use an orchid mix along with regular potting soil. Mine is thriving in the mix.

I also use this monstera food.

It looks like it’s in a soil medium that may not be best for monstera — I would repot with a chunkier soil mix!

use a different soil mix!! I have mine in fox farm aroid mix plus a bit more of orchid bark and perlite! This soil mix has been amazing for them and they’re loving it as it has a lot of nutrients and it’s pretty airy with the added bark and perlite! Fully recommend!! And you can carefully check if the plants come with a type of medium cork attached to the root ball which would be good to remove if it’s the case!

I got my monstera at TJs as well and it needed a little extra love at first but it’s grown into a beauty in three years. It’s huge! Just get a better soil and put it somewhere with lots of indirect light. Mine is on the landing of my stairs in our foyer and it has thrived there. Also support the back with a pole and Velcro ties.
