HELP! My favorite plant Ruth is not doing well. Some of her large leaves are yellowing and going to die off. I repotted her in the spring. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong! But new sprouts are still coming. I don’t know what to do. I’ll be so sad if I lose her. 😢

Yellowing leaves could be over watering? How are you checking the soil before watering? Have you also checked for any bugs? X

I go by planta’s watering schedule. I don’t have a system for checking water. Just my finger. No pests that I can see.

When in spring did you repot, and did you repot in different soil/a larger pot?

I did do tropical soil and a larger pot.

Hmm OK it looks like overwatering to me - wilting, yellowing leaves combined with a new, larger pot… overwatering would be my best guess. Someone else commented that Planta tends towards over watering and I agree with that. I use Planta as a prompt but also use a water meter AND my finger (some tropical soils confuse the meter because they’re so chunky). I also put plants on a raised draining board when I water them, so there’s zero chance they will sit in water- which is a risk with well draining soils. Looking at your plant, I would go Apocalypse Now on it - take out of pot, check the roots for rot (prune anything brown and soggy) and then repot in new soil. Then, prune the worst of the leaves and begin a conservative watering schedule with lots of double checking.

Thank you. That’s what I’m thinking. I’ll get better soil and a meter. Would it be a good time to split her? Even if I repotted in the spring? Or would splitting cause too much stress?

So with plantas watering schedule I’d use it as a reminder to check first. As I find it Tells me to overwater. I’d recommend getting a moisture meter as it shows the moisture all the way down the pot too. These plants like To completely dry out in between watering. Your gna need to cut off all yellowing leaves as they are going to die and attract pets x

How is she doing now? Has she boi fed back at all? Has she also got a nice chunky soil with a place to drain her extra water? They at Elli don’t like to be sat in water and a chunky soil really helps with drainage x

I think I’m going to repot again and split her into better soil. I’ll also get a water meter. Thoughts?

Have you repotted her recently? And in what soil? Xx

I read that she repotted in Spring. I worry that it’s too early - particularly with an already stressed plant - unless it’s an urgent measure due to the wrong type of soil - can’t see clearly from the picture.
