My thai con suffered some damage from being left in the box by a family member for 2 weeks and that was around christmas, is there a reason why it sent up a new leaf from the base, instead of splitting off the biggest leaf? And will the damaged leaves just die off?

Oops, that’s a bummer that your new Thai started with a setback. It looks like the damaged leaves are healthy enough to stay alive. That’s interesting that the new leaf came from a lower spot. Maybe the plant activated an older node due to the stress. That’s good that it’s sending up new growth though!

Only time will tell if the larger leaves will die off. They still have green in them and are supporting photosynthesis, so they could survive in their current condition. Monsteras are hardy so I bet they’ll make it. The pot size is way too big, tho. I’d recommend downsizing to a 4-5 inch pot. Pot size should be around 1-2 inches larger than the root ball. Anything above that is oversized.

I am happy they look healthy enough to stick around, and it was strangely really root bound when i got it, which i was also confused about since its such a small plant, i know they like to be a little compact, though, so i could downsize, im just afraid of shocking it more by potting again
