Iā€™ve recently propagated this from my older plant, rooted it in water, and now potted it in soil (thereā€™s actually two plants in here). It is currently in almost the biggest nursery pot I can buy (27 cm), and the mamma plant is in one slightly bigger but is outgrowing it. So I guess the next repotting has to be into a giant ceramic/terracotta pot, that I can put on wheeled base so it is moveable? But do such pots have drainage? If you have a big, heavy indoor monstera, how do you pot and water it?

    I take mine outside to repot is so any mess I make is not a big clean up. Or you could also get a XL reporting mat if you wish not to repot it outdoors. There are also bigger grower pots then 27cm, if not accessible to you in person then maybe online? I know lowes has a really big nursery planter. But I would reccoment putting it on a wheelbase so it is easier to transport. If the pots do not have drainage, some local plant stores will drill holes in the pots for you. If you can't find a pot big enough with drainage holes then i would recommend watering frequently and only watering when the soil is completely dry. When it comes to watering my monsteraā€™s one week I top water and the next week I bottom water, I have a saucer under the plant and I empty it once the water pools at the bottom. If I am bottom watering I add a lot of water to the saucer ensuring to cover the drainage holes, and let the plant sit in the water for 15-20mins before removing any excess water. I only water my monstera if I stick my index finger in the dirt and its dry. You can also check the soil mosited by using a chopstick or a toothpick, just like baking a cake, if the pick is wet then the plant isn't done drying.

      Thanks. Yeah, I normally bottom water tooā€¦but harder to do if the pot is so big and heavy I canā€™t lift it. My issue isnā€™t where to repot (I have a mat, and a garden), it is how to manage watering with the big pot. Iā€™m not in the US so we donā€™t have places like Lowes that will drill holes (and even if they did, are their saucers big enough for such big pots? And how do you empty extra water from them anyway?

      My apologies for assuming you were in the US šŸ˜…, but yes there are saucers big enough, I usually buy the cheap plastic ones. If you do happen to put it on a base with wheels then this might make it a lot easier to dump out any excess water in the pot/saucer. You could try slightly tipping it to remove excess water. Any lost soil can be replaced. Turkey baster, napkins, or a sponge are also a alternative to remove excess water from saucers. If the plant does not have drainage holes, you may have to go an extra mile but put the plant's soil/media into the same type of cups ensuring that the weight is exact. Then in one cup, I would completely saturate the soil with water, leaving the other cup dry. Then weigh them. After that take the saturated weight minus the dry weight and it should equal the amount of water that the soil can hold ( Saturated weight - dry weight = water weight). After you have these measurements take the water weight and put it into the same type of cup, this will give you an eye estimate of how much water the soil can hold. Also, lighting is very important when it comes to plants without any drainage holes. When you report you could also add an extra layer of drainage to help soak up excess moisture. A shallow layer of Activated charcoal at the bottom of the pot will naturally increase the plants absorptive properties, which makes your plant very happy in the case of over-watering. You could also add common additives like perlite, pumice, vermiculite, orchid bark, and horticultural charcoal to your souls media to ensure proper drainage. I hope this helps.

      Thanks, great suggestions here. I hadnā€™t thought about a sponge to soak up water from a saucer. I do mix my own soil including perlite, vermiculite and orchid bark. Used to include charcoal but no one sells it here anymore šŸ˜¢.
