What’s wrong with my monstera?? I feel like I’m not having luck with it 😭 it’s in front of a west facing window. It’s in tropical soil from local plant shop so it should be legit and not like miracle grow soil. I had a leaf grow in dead. This new leaf grew in but with lighter brown spots. And the two darker original leaves seem to have something going on with them too. (The little leaves under the light green new leaf are actually fake lol) Please help any advice! This was a gift from a friend and I want to do well with it because they said their monstera was growing crazy and needed to trim and cut it down so I got a piece of it with roots in tact but I feel like I just can’t seem to do it justice 😔

From the photos it looks like maybe your gal isn’t getting enough light, my monstera is right up against a south facing window and THRIVING. I also had her outside where it was too hot and one of her leaves grew in small and half dead so I took her back inside and she’s all better now, so it could also be yours might be to hot. Hope this helps!! Good luck 😊

east or west is best for monstera to prevent burning. tell me more about your watering and fertilizing schedule, and how long you’ve had it

Nothing to worry about in the second picture with the leaf tip — just minor mechanical damage, it happens!

I water and fertilize based on Planta’s schedule. So looks like I fertilized 8 days ago, last watered 17 days ago. I have a tendency to overwater and get fungus gnats so I switched to bottom watering and making sure soil is dried out before watering again. I got this plant around April, it was a part of a friend’s plant and there were two leaves attached and a root ball so I had healthy roots to start with. It’s grown 2 leaves since but they haven’t really prospered. Planta doctor says I dried it out and then overwatered. What do you think?

my preferred remedy for gnat prevention (and overwaterers) over bottom watering is making sure the soil is very well draining— especially for monstera, extra perlite and orchid bark or coco coir is a must in your soil. this will allow it to dry out more quickly if you’ve got the soil, lighting, and watering in order, give her uninterrupted time to adjust

This is the soil. Planta says to water today and it does seem dry so I’m going to bottom water. What do you think? Does it look like it might need more perlite or orchid bark? I did have it in too big of a pot originally and then reduced to this nursery pot. Is it maybe still too big?

the pot doesn’t look gigantic but idk how much your roots are filling the pot. soil looks alright, although monstera never minds it being a bit chunkier. mine has a similar texture to yours — no coco though. i wouldn’t change the pot again - stay consistent, let her adjust
