Just got my first monstera deliciosa. Looking for any tips /tricks. Also when do you need to add a moss pole? It seems premature to do so right now, but I don’t want to mess the plant up because I didn’t do it.

Oh wow! She is tiny! Never seen them that small! Beautiful. I would say when you start seeing aerial roots would be a good time.

Perfect name 💚 I agree with waiting on the poll till you see aerial roots or when/if it starts to grow in twenty different directions (they love to do that). Keep it in bright indirect light (never direct sunlight, I don’t care what anyone says…never direct sun), water it when the top 2 inches of soil feel dry (maybe a bit more sometimes I wait till mine is 3 inches dry). I’d suggest bottom watering it. You need a pot with good draining holes. Sit it in about 2 inches of water for 20 minutes (it really depends on the size of the plant) and then let it drain well/fully before you place it back in its decorative pot/basket (if it has one). I use a plastic pool or my tub when it’s just an indoor plant or two. I cover my topsoil (on every plant) with worm castings every couple months. I’ll be mixing some in the soil when it’s repotting time. I give it (all my plants) some superthrive once every month when I water them. You mix it in their water (instructions on the bottle). I’ve never fertilized mine, but I think I’m going to just to see if it’ll grow faster.

Haha thanks! I may have to update as they evolve. Also thanks for the help. I’m in an apartment and only have one plant out there. I have grow lights for my plants.

You’re welcome. By the looks of your monstera it has more than one plant in it. It would be best to separate them into separate containers. I suggest this because monsteras have a front and back. You’re going to need to find the back of each stalk and put your poll directly behind it up on it and only secure the top/first leaf that’s growing from that back/main stem. This way the plant will grow forward and not every direction. I can show a picture of what I’m saying if you’d like.

Yeah they are facing 2 different ways. Would you mind sending a pic?

This is one with one main stem in the pot and this is how you’ll want to support it. I use bamboo instead of moss poles, but either is good. Can you make heads or tails of this pic?

This is one w/six different plants in it meaning six main stems much like your plant. I’m going to be separating these and potting them all in separate pots this weekend. If you chose to you’ll have to do the same thing.

That’s cool. I’ll probably be around here if any questions arise.
