I’ve seen a lot of people who say to put hot glue over the cutting to prevent it from rotting. You can also let the cutting harden over over night and then put it in water. Did you use any rooting hormone?

I would pull it out, cut the rotting part away, spray with 3% hydrogen peroxide, let the cutting callous over and then put it back into water with some rooting hormone.

As of right now no rooting hormones but I ordered some last night! Thank you for the tips ❤️

I would also recommend sphagnum moss or peat moss as an alternative to water, mostly because humidity and consistent moisture is so important for new roots and propagations, however if there is constant water even with a bubbler and that added oxygen in the water, it may not be successful. It could work if you stay on top of replacing water and making sure it’s the water is not to hard, but it’ll be easier to manage and more likely to grow lots of roots faster with moss. Good luck!

How do you properly use sphagnum to propagate? I tried using the cling wrap moist moss method on a free deliciosa cutting but it too rotted but I also have one doing great in just water with a bubbler. Could I have used too much water? Are rooting hormones necessary when going that route?

Rotting hormone always helps give the plant some extra motivation to grow roots for sure, but if it is a large healthy cutting it should be able to push out roots on its own. I usually just use a tupperware container and fill it up with moss (no need for drainage) and try to prevent the moss from drying out completely while the new roots develope. I just did this with a monstera adenosine and it worked well although I did use rooting hormone, but the cuttings were so small they needed it. You can also enclose the system to make a little greenhouse effect which will boost humidity and speed up root development.
