Looking for some advice on propagating. Iāve never propagated any of my different monsteras before, and ofc decided to start with the albo. I cut it beneath the node and have it in RO water as thatās what I have besides well water and itās what I use for all of my other plants and have had no issue. Should I include a little liquid fertilizer in my water? Or should it be fine how I have it right now? Any advice is welcomeā¤ļø
Also I forgot to include, I did just throw a grow light on my prop wall today since I felt like it wasnāt getting enough light. (This picture is about the extent of light they get)

donāt fertilize for now! excess nutrients in the water may cause the stem to rot. let it develop some roots on its own, monsteras are pretty quick to propagate anyway!

I agree you shouldnāt add fert. Will note that monstera albo can actually be shockingly slow to root/propagate if you donāt air layer, though if youāre in the northern hemisphere you should do okay because itās spring. I started my albo collection with a cutting that took 8 months before it even started rooting, but once it got started it grew really well. Iāve propped at least a dozen times since then and almost always air layer because cuttings sometimes donāt seem to want to root. You can speed up rooting with warmth and/or an air stone. For props that are really slow to root I donāt give high light because it can desiccate them
1 gilla Iāll have to try that next time I prop it! I actually starting watching videos on tissue cultures (because Iād love to try it but Iām scaredš) and I went down a monstera rabbit hole and saw that method and was wishing I would have known that was a thing so I could try it. I might try it with my large ānormalā monstera so I can make her a bushier tho. I absolutely love my plant room and love learning new ways to prop and care for themā¤ļø
0 gillningar are you including aerial roots with your monstera props? iām in the northern hemisphere too and it usually just takes me a couple weeks before they start developing strong roots!
1 gilla Yep, would never prop without an aerial root, and other monstera often root quickly. But I have multiple albo from different genetic lines and they can be sloooooow
1 gilla Yes there is one little aerial root right above (slightly touching) the water :) funny enough I didnāt purposely do that either I just figured there was no reason to cut one off when it was already on the node
0 gillningar Update for anybody who wants to know! She is already growing a new root! That was not there when I put her in the prop tube a week ago!!!
