sooo someone at work just brought me this monstera bc it was too big looks pretty healthy and has a new, beautifully fenestrated leaf! i have quite a few monsteras (they’re my fav), but none this large. i want to give her something to climb, but not sure where to start with one this size, so i’m looking for any advice yall would like to share ☺️

O wow congrats, that’s a big Bertha. I’d say a decent wood plank from Home Depot could work.

Wowowow those leaves! 🤩 I was going to say wood plank too but it looks to be growing pretty horizontally 🤔 You might have to macgyver this one. But I’d definitely say, at this size, something sturdy from the hardware store will likely serve you better than something pretty from a plant shop Now this is a bit out there, just a thought that popped into my head. But what if you got it a long rectangular “pot.” I’ve seen small rectangular planters for crawling philodendrons. But obviously this is a much bigger case. I enjoy diy, so I would find something like a cement mixing basin and drill drainage holes. But I recognize that’s ugly and tedious for most people 😂 Lastly, what’s up with the back of the older leaves? I can’t see clearly in the picture, but you’ll probably want to check for pests if you haven’t already. But yeah, nice score from your coworker!

YES i am so happy someone said it lol i have been saying i want a “trough” for my monsteras! i noticed the markings on the leaves too! i checked everywhere for pests/fungi, but don’t see any signs of them or further distress. planta thinks it’s snails? lol

If there’s no damage on the newer leaves, it could have just been something that happened in the past. Fresh leaves are the tastiest, so if they’re in good condition, you should be in the clear! Luckily snails don’t really do indoor conditions 😂 That would be a gross infestation to have I’m glad you’re thinking of trough planters too! I’d love to see updates if you give that a go! My thai con seems to be growing the same way as this one you got. It’s definitely not as big yet, but the deliciosa family is so fast growing, I better make some long-term plans sooner rather than later. If only I had a fancy plant conservatory where I could grow it up a tree or wall so it could reach its full potential 🤣

I honestly would consider chop and propping into three sections then getting it going on a plank. You could air layer the stem and grow new roots to avoid losing the current leaves.

Ok unpopular opinion perhaps, but I would just let it do its thing!! That behemoth stem is providing plenty of stability. Next repot I love the idea of something trough-shaped!

i’m definitely letting it do its thing! so excited to watch it grow 😍 i chopped and propped my biggest one at the beginning of the season and am very much not interested in doing that again, especially to this one
