Hi guys! So, a few days ago my mum and I repotted her monstera plants! She has two huge ones that were in need of some tlc so we repotted them, fresh soil etc. Desperate to grow my own I saved two of the cuttings (with single leaves on quite sturdy stems with those little roots growing off them) and popped them in water for about a day before repotting them in soil. I love plants, but I’m not glued down on the language at all so I apologise! I am also a beginner. How long will it take to see growth? Have I even done the right thing to see growth? For reference this is the plant at the moment. He looks so so sad :-(

Welcome to the planty life! It will take over quickly lol. I’m not too sure about propagating monstera in soil. I am familiar with water propagation tho and usually I expect to wait atleast a few weeks (like 3-4!) before you see any roots start to grow! I recommend water prop’ing because you can see the progress of the roots 🤩 Just place the cuttings in the same vessel and wait! Rooting hormone may also speed up the process. You can find this on Amazon easily or perhaps a plant depot! Patience is key. I like to wait until the roots are atleast two inches long and the main roots start to form “secondary” roots off the main branch. You might also lose a leaf in the prop process but that is totally normal and it will replace itself! Hopefully someone on here has some advice for monstera soil props for you. Goodluck!😄

From what I’ve seen monsteras don’t usually propagate in soil, so I would move it back to water. Also, once you transition to soil again, you’ll need a much chunkier soil that that one, since monsteras are aroids and prone to root rot. I’ll attach a picture of what my chunky soil mix looks like.

Agreeed, also this pot looks way too big for it. You’ll want a pot with good drainage as well

Thank you so so much to everyone who has taken the time to reply!! So so appreciative, I will keep you updated when there is change (I shall make the transition when I go back home and let you know how it does) 😍 I will also tell the mother about the chunky soil because we just used regular soil with a the extra nutrients!! 😬

I mix 1 part indoor potting soil, 1 part orchid bark, and 1 part perlite. It’s a good airy soil that most plants enjoy
