Hi friends! This is my first monstera. I got her in January from a vintage mall and repotted her soon after. I’m so pleased to say she’s already grown four new leaves since then and is working on her fifth! She’s getting pretty bushy and her new leaves are hiding behind her old curly ones. Can/should I prune her to show off her pretty new fenestrated leaves? She’s looking kinda crazy and she’s growing in a bunch of directions. I’d want to try to propagate whatever I cut. Any advice or tips from experienced Monstera parents? Thanks in advance!

Monsteras like to climb. So if you give it something to lean & climb up, the new leaves emerging will come out above the others. 😊 You may want to check your watering routine. If the leaves are always curled like that, it might not be getting enough water. Unless it’s just doing it since you repotted. Then it might just be shock. (Also, do you have drainage in that pot?) I wouldn’t propagate yet. Since the leaves are curled, they may not be healthy enough to survive the trauma. It looks like you have multiple plants in there? So that could be a reason it’s growing in different directions. So next time it needs to be repotted, you may want to gently untangle the plants & roots so you can face them all toward the light. The stems & leaves will follow the light. They love light. It looks like you are misting the leaves. I used to do that with some plants. But after some research, I discovered it doesn’t really do much for humidity & will leave water spots on your leaves which can make it a little harder for the leaves to photosynthesize. Monsteras are a lot of fun. 😁

Thanks so much for all the details! I definitely want to get her a moss pole to climb up and will be doing that hopefully soon! They’ve been doing that since I repotted, but the new leaves (and some other older ones you can’t really see in the pics) aren’t curly. I had a suspicion there might be more than one plant going on in there - this was the first plant I ever repotted so I was nervous to really dig into her roots and see what’s going on. There is indeed drainage! I took these pics right after misting and before wiping off the sitting drops. I’ve read such conflicting things about misting them! I might try to un pot her and adjust, especially if there is more than one plant. Should I unpot anyway when I get a moss pole? I’m afraid to stab her roots with it.

I would wait to repot if it’s been done recently. You don’t necessarily need a most pole. Even a piece of wood or a stake would do. And if it’s thin enough, you can usually get it in the soil without much damage 😊

This is what worked well for me. You just tie it to the pole between nodes.

You can definitely prune her. You might try rotating the pot every week. This can help more uniform growth. And not all over
