👋 Plant Newbie here! Just learned about this, I’m sure many people who are advanced monstera owners already know it, but for anyone else like me here is a neat tip! 🪴😂

Hi Plant Newbie, as an “advanced monstera owner” (someone who has been growing monsteras for many years!), I wouldn’t waste time and energy on diy stuff like this. IMO it’s better to invest in a good quality balanced fertiliser (organic or synthetic, whatever you prefer). That way you can provide your plant with all the nutrients it needs, not just a diluted amount of potassium (is there evidence that potassium is even bioavailable like this to the plant’s roots?). A common technique that lots of people use is just to add a very diluted amount of your chosen fertiliser with every watering. That way the plant continually receives a small dose of the nutrients it requires. I personally like to do a straight watering (no added nutrients) every few waterings too to ensure any salt buildup gets cleared away as well. Best of luck on your plant journey!

I am exploring it as a way to not waste and revamp something that would otherwise be discarded. I certainly do not plan to water with this exclusively. I have good quality fertilizers and mix up my watering with/without fertilizer and bottom/top watering.🪴

I totally appreciate your enthusiasm! A fabulous and very effective way to use up your banana peels is to incorporate them into compost or worm farms! That way you can create some beneficial organic material to mix in with your soil (or donate to friends; who doesn’t love a bottle of “worm wee”?! 😉) and it’s both environmentally conscious and scientifically sound.

I agree with Bb, but also encourage trying this combined with other home DIY “tricks” if it motivates you to continue your plant journey :) whatever can keep you engaged with your hobby is worth while, even if it isn’t the best way to go about it! I knew people who would use their bong water, or egg shells, etc just because it was a fun thing to keep them engaged.

I am a waste not want not person, so I enjoy using things at least twice! 🙂🪴 I also collect water that would be appropriate for my plants in a cute watering can rather than just dumping down the sink!
