Hello everyone I bought my 1st monstera a week ago, its roots were already out growing the pot so I repotted it with all purpose soil. Someone suggested to give it a good rinse under water I did that as well but its not looking good. Please help me save it. Also I moved it closer to window today as I live in cold weather with short daylight and snow. Please tell me if its right approach as well. Another thing is despite those dying leaves there are 2 new leaves coming up as you might be able to see in pic, please tell me what am I doing right and wrong. Thank you😊

It likes high humidity and well draining soil. Part sun, part shade. Remember it's a tropical plant. Water about every 12-14 days.

    1. Check for pests. They can be tiny 2. Check the roots. Cut any rot away, or cut at the nodes and propagate to make new roots (or—more exciting—new monsteras). 3. You may want to invest in a grow light. They don’t like direct light and I wonder if a leaf or two got a little crispy. You can cut those as close to the base as possible. Remember: It’s gone through a lot. It needs to acclimate and may not look “pretty” for a few weeks. I also find (my) monsteras to be hardy. I was so scared to chop and prop. But do it in the right place… and you’ll have a lush mini-rainforest 🥰

All purpose soil without extra drainage added is probably too moisture-retentive for a monstera. I’d repot it into a much chunkier and well draining soil mix, such as a mixture of equal parts potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark. Moving it closer to a window is the right call, but it also depends on what direction the window is facing. If it’s a north facing window, you’ll need to supplement with a grow light. If it’s a west facing window, you’ll want to back it up a few feet or add a sheer curtain. East facing windows are ideal but mine is also thriving in a partially obstructed south facing window. You also want to add some kind of support like a trellis or moss pole to the backside of the main part of the plant. when repotting, trim off any dead or mushy roots with clean sxisssors and make sure the pot you use is no more than 1-2 inches bigger than the root ball to avoid overwatering. dont water the plant until the soil is 75% dry. Tanner the Planter has good videos on youtube about when to water your monstera. Plants with Krystal also has good monstera care videos.

Biggest comment from everyone is…soil! It needs chunky soil- airoid mix…lots of drainage in soil and pot! Grow light- full spectrum 12-14hrs a day - very bright! A good ring light from Amazon! Always spray plant with insect soap when you bring it home!
