Hey guys! I’m new to the whole plant thing but I’ve been doing it for about five months now. I have a big Thai constellation. Monstera and I accidentally just ripped one of the big healthy leaves off while I was vacuuming. Any advice on what I do with the leaf or the stem? I’m just kicking myself in the ass right now because I feel so stupid! Thank you! Help!!!

If you broke it and it’s still attached to the stem with a node you can put that in the water and propagate it maybe for another plant

I’m so new to this I don’t know how to tell if there is a node. I just ended up putting the leaf in water and cut the stem and put the end that had the leaf on it in water.

A node looks like little knots on the stem

unfortunately I don’t think you’ll be able to save the leaf/stem :( your plant baby will heal and continue to grow tho so don’t beat yourself up too much about it!

For reference, I’ve circled the node on my young ‘Thai con’ and the pink arrow shows the aerial root! The nodes are the points where the leaves meet the stem.

This is my mature ‘deliciosa’ — I’ve circled some of the aerial roots and drawn lines on some of the internodes where I could cut the plant if I wanted to propagate it.

What can I do with all these things I don’t know about???

Essentially, the internodes are the locations where you can cut a monstera to propagate it ☺️ the aerial roots will develop further root systems when placed in water (or your preferred propagation method). The axillary bud is a dormant growth point that can produce a new branch/offshoot (they can be much smaller than the one in the diagram) and your cutting must have a node and an axillary bud to be successful.

So where would I cut this then?
