Hello all, This is my first Monstera and I'm beyond excited! I'm hoping for some advice from some of the more experienced owners here. I'm planning my repot once spring hits and I'm looking for the best premade or DIY soil recipe. I've done a bunch of research and came up with the following: 5pt Orchid Bark 4pt Coco Coir 5pt Perlite 2pt Activated Charcoal 2pt Worm Castings I plan on potting it in a 12x12 clear pot so I can monitor root growth and plan to throw it on a moss pole. 1) Do you recommend that mix or something premade? 2) If using the above mix, should I use small, medium or large Orchid Bark? 3) Should I add something more to retain moisture so it doesn't have to be watered so frequently? 4) I vacation frequently and was going to throw a strip of microfiber towel in the center and run it out the top so I can have it self water while away for longer periods. Is this a terrible idea? I'd greatly appreciate any feedback!!

A clear pot sounds so cool!!! I think the soil mix is fine! I usually don’t repot plants for about a year after getting them to let them establish to my house to avoid added stress, unless they’re root bound! Monsteras are pretty resilient, so do as your heart desires! My only question is humidity and fertilizer!

I don't have a humidity meter unfortunately but I do have a humidifier running at all times in the room that houses most of my plants! The room is open to the rest of the house so I just run it 24/7 for the most part. I haven't fertilized her yet because I just got her a few weeks ago and I'm not sure when the store fertilized her last so I was gonna wait a month or two. I usually use an all purpose liquid fertilizer from Schultz but I plan to pick up the fox farms grow big fertilizer to start using moving forward. She's definitely root bound and they're starting to grow out of the drainage holes slightly so I want to upgrade her for this growing season. I want to wait until the start of spring to help with any shock since I plan to remove majority of the soil she's in at the moment and replace with a new growing medium. I'm glad to hear you think the recipe I posted is fine since I already have all the components! I appreciate your feedback!!

If you have a humidifier running a lot, you don’t really need a meter unless you want one. I only have one in my greenhouse cabinet, but the plants that aren’t in it, I just have a humidifier running on them with no meter. It seems like you got a solid plan! I honestly don’t think I’d change anything!
