I have a few questions for my new moss pole, I used sphagnum moss in mine. How wet do I need to keep it? Will it attract fungus gnats? I have a few and I seen a few were around it. Can the aerial roots that grow into it get root rot? Can the stalk of the plant rot if it’s touching it? Does this look ok?
A couple answers for you! Yes any root can get rot however aerial roots are less prone as they are exposed to air for drying out. And it is a good thing you have the stalk of the plant touching the pole, it will promote root growth and strength for bigger for beautiful/healthy leaves! Honestly the positioning of the plant looks great! Normally with moss poles you soak the moss in a bowl of water and the squeeze it hand dry and “pack” the pole. You could fill that thing up to the top if you’d like (it will help when you want to easily keep the moss moist).. Sadly the fungus gnats just became a daily reminder that you brought wild plants indoors and if you want them to thrive some of the outdoors come with them & all we can do is battle them. Allowing the soil to almost completely dry out will help “kind of” keep them away, but they’ll always be around now.

1 gilla I would put the tie (soft side touching the stalk) right under the bend to the top leaf & honestly is about a month it should really start to grow at a much higher rate of speed👍🏼

You can eradicate fungus gnats by using mosquito bits with every watering. Works amazing!
