Scooby

I rescued this plant from a grocery store around June. It’s definitely grown since I’ve had it. But some of the leaves got sick so I cut the sick part off. There’s new babies growing, but I feel like I need to do more? It’s still in the plastic pot. I’m a little insecure about my potting skills and don’t want to stress it out? How big of a pot should I use? I’ve considered taking it out and putting roots in water? Theoughts? To add: the cut leaves were already sick, but a part of them were turning nasty, so I gave her a horrible hair cut. I water when the soil feels dry.

    Is that a bright light spot? Could be dropping leaves because of low light and the petioles look a little weak. I think it could be lacking in nutrients. Are you using a fertilizer during the growing season?

      This was night time in my kitchen. It normally is in light but I’m guessing it needs more. So I’m going to put it in a different area of my house. I have never changed the soil, as the soil in my town at the Home Depot is all infested with little gnats. Don’t suggest a soil I should buy?

    And to repot, you can use this mix and maybe even add a little bit of soil (not too much because the chunky mix is so that the roots can breathe, monsteras are prone to root rot) into it if you have some and mix it in to help the soil retain water better. This is so you have to water it less lol. I also like to use some kind of root stimulant and sprinkle it on the roots of the plant and a little into the new soil. it helps the plant get settled in its new pot better :) also, water before repotting to help loosen the soil, and water again after repotting. Don’t water again until the soil dries out all the way through

    And, monsteras are stronger with support you can get a metal trellis or make your own moss/support pole. It will take off with huge leaves when you give it the right light and support!

      Should I get a bigger pot? All I have rn is the plastic one.

      Yes, get another nursery plastic pot because those have great drainage. I like using clear nursery pots bc you can see the roots of your plant which helps you see if it’s taking to its new pot well. A good rule of thumb is to get a repot in a pot that is 1-2 inch taller & 1-2 inch wider than the root ball.
