Hello everyone, My sister just sent me a picture of her plant because sheā€™s asking for help with her Monstera. I think that it is root bound and needs to be repotted into a larger pot. But, I always need yā€™allā€™s help because everyone knows I donā€™t have a green thumb at all. Please help!!! It is a Sierrana Monstera!! The pot is 16ā€™ and the plant is about 20ā€™ tall (ish). Last watered yesterday; damp from being misted on top of soil. Itā€™s a bottom waterer, and the water is still sitting in tray. Plant has not drank anything.

    Hi there, it sort of looks like the opposite is needed imo - the pot looks like itā€™s too big for the plant and itā€™s hard to tell but it looks like there may be 2 plants in there, would that be right? Monstera like a snug fit in their pot in my experience. When repotting I would also create a soil mix that will aerate the soil more. So mixing up a nice aroid mix or if your sis isnā€™t super confident with that yet, I generally suggest just buying good potting mix and some perlite - mixing it so itā€™s about 3 parts potting soil to 1 part perlite. When I do a mix I use a cup and will scoop 3 cups of soil and then 1 cup of perlite - then repeat that until thereā€™s enough for the pot :) Hope that helps! šŸŒæšŸŒæšŸŒæ

    I'd be really shocked if that was root bound. It looks like it needs more light. If the plant isn't soaking up water, than it doesn't need it, and letting it continue to sit in a water tray will lead to root rot with these guys. I water mine like every 2 weeks or so. Mines also in a large pot, 2 gallon pot

    From the pic, it looks like the pot is too big and that may be why it isnā€™t soaking up water from the bottom of the pot. The roots drank enough. Letting the water sit in the tray will def lead to root rot too. She should take it out and look at the size of the root ball and find a pot thatā€™s 1ā€ to 2ā€ bigger onlyā€¦
