Had my first Monstera a few weeks now and loving it so far. Been reading up and talking to the AI on here, it’s saying that next to the window is better than in the corner, will this make a difference or are both just as good as each other, as neither are direct sunlight (apart from that tiny speckle)
Honestly, you can probably put that Deliciosa DIRECTLY infront of that window for about 12 - 14 hours a day, and it will thrive. Monsteras are absolute photon-gobblers. From my expierence, the only bad direct sunlight is when they are outside with no shade. Even then, if they are acclimated correctly, they take that like a champ too. My rule of thumb with my monsteras is give them as much light as possible and if they start to will a little, back off (or away from the window) an inch or 2.
5 likesPerfect thank you! So it’ll be okay kept next to the window, and just give it a few hours in the sunlight in the middle of the room daily, to keep it happy??
1 likeI would also move it in front of the window. That way it’ll have faster growth than being where it is now. But it’ll be healthy as long as it has plenty of light.

yes, sitting it next to the window is significantly less sun than diagonal to it, because the light it's receiving is light that's taking longer to reflect off of the opposite wall and reach the plant, the sun can't really reach the monstera over the lip of your window. monsteras LOVE sun, you can download a free light meter for your phone, find one that can measure in PPFD, the spot it's in needs to reach at least 300 for at least 10 hours for good growth
1 likeThis spot measured about 400, 20ft away from a southwest facing window, once the sun sets a bit lower in the sky I think it’ll get some direct beams. Would 20ft be too far away though do you reckon
because of the measurement, no, not too far away. that's perfect. don't rotate, let all of the leaves try to face the same direction, they naturally have a "front" and "back" of the stem.
0 likesOkay perfect thank you :) I’ve also trialled him in this spot, with the shutters I can easily prevent any sunburn , I’ll just have to rotate every now and then to make sure all the leaves get an even amount, so at least I’ve got two good spots for it, will just see how it grows and suits which one. Thanks for the help :))
It will make a big difference that distance from the window. The corner will be an unhappy spot I think.
