Hello friends, my most recent monstera is starting to brown on the light parts of its leaf. Is this something that could have been caused by over watering or too much sunlight? Any advise is appreciated :)

not reversible, unfortunately. tell us more about your conditions. how often do you water, how do you water. how much light is it getting — which direction does the window face?

I got her a little over a week ago and repotted her same day since the pot she was previously in did not have any drainage. I’ve only watered once and that was about a week ago. Didn’t provide too much water since it was in a heavily saturated pot from the store. Soil is still fairly moist. not in the windowsill, but near a south facing window.

How far from the window? Since you’ve already repotted I wouldn’t do it again but definitely let it dry all the way out before you water it. And when you do water do it thoroughly so that water runs steadily out of the drainage holes

Based on the light in this photo, and the soil not drying quickly, I don’t think it’s getting enough light — causing this browning. Variegated varieties like this don’t photosynthesize as effectively as green plants so they need more light. Putting it right in your south facing window would likely burn it — do you have an east or west facing window?

it’s about 2 feet or so from the window. that’s unfortunately the only window that is able to have plants near it. I can try moving it closer without putting it directly in the window

Hi -just a reminder that while light, humidity, watering issues, and tap water can contribute to browning - it is not uncommon when there is no green present. The white and cream parts of leaves have no chlorophyll so browning can be unavoidable in a home environment.

yes!! the variegated parts of plants are more sensitive to everything, so as lomg as the rest of the plant is healthy, i just trim any browning bits :)

    Try switching to distilled water.
