   a lot of people believe monsteras NEED moss poles, but they don't. they just need something they can climb. cedar planks, wood poles, plastic stakes.... anything tall and heavy enough to support them will work just fine. when not using a moss pole i've seen people recommend guiding aerial roots back into the soil when they're long enough

     This is exactly correct, but some people don’t like the look of air roots at all and trim them. This doesn’t hurt the plant, it just slows down growth not having these extra roots to provide water and nutrients to the higher leaves

     i've never thought about that but yeah cutting them would make the plant grow slower, you're right.

     I can’t agree more with this, my giant monstera doesn’t have a moss pole and it grows great

   Either option works, I have 4 individual basic deliciosa and the largest has moss pole, the three smaller ones have these bamboo sticks. I’m going to only trim the aerial roots on the medium sized one I have in the sink right now, but only ones that are growing from higher than a couple inches above the pot rim. I wanna experiment and see how much of a difference each way makes. I have enough moss poles laying around to do all of them but living in an apartment I need them to stay manageable sizes for now
