First time monstera owner here🪴💚and I’m having an issue😭just bought it yesterday from Lowe’s ok I know it’s not the best place to buy plants. But he was calling my name!! I got home and put it into planta and I took the planter out of the pot it came in to make sure things were good and the pot was FILLED with water like half way filled. And this pot is huge. And I was able to squeeze the planter and water was FLOWING out of the bottom like a waterfall. Is this plant gonna be a goner because of it sitting in this water and the soil being soaked?? I don’t want it to die and I don’t know how to save him😭any advice is greatly appreciated!!!

I’m pretty sure if you repot it and let the soil dry out before you water it again you might be able to save the little guy. The little dude is looking pretty green still so fingers crossed!

I took it out of that white pot (because it has no holes ofc) so it’s just in the plastic planter because it has plenty of holes on the bottom. Over night it leaked so much water that the wooden drip tray it was sitting on was soaked!! Should I repot it to a different planter or is it ok in the one it’s in now??

The others will correct me if I’m wrong but I would say leave him in the plastic planter for a little while longer. He’s gotta get used to being in your house or you’ll shock him.

If the soil feels quite wet I’d probably repot it just to be on the safe side to avoid root rot. If it seems to be drying out then might be okay

I’m going to check it when I get home from work today and if the soil is still really really soaked than I may have to repot him. I’m hoping he expelled all of his excess water last night because I woke up to a puddle!!!

I think as long as the growers pot has drainage and it’s in a sunny spot, you’ll be fine. Just don’t water again until it’s dry. They are pretty resilient

I wouldn’t repot just yet. But I would leave the plastic pot on paper towel so it absorbs extra moisture from the bottom. Have good air flow maybe a fan near it to dry the top soil. Have it in good light too. Maybe add a grow light for now. Just to get that soul to dry up quicker. But at the least keep it on the paper towel to absorb from the bottom.

Thankyou so much!! Great update, it’s doing fine and the top soil is really drying up nicely!! And the bottom is expelling water still.
