I have this monstera here that I think is pretty young. I got him from a plant shop like 2-3 weeks ago and since he’s been popping new leaves left and right. But they are small and not fenestrated. Should I be trimming these leaves back to encourage new leaves? Or should I leave them? I’ve never had a monstera sprout so much I also did move it closer to the window recently since I read that more light can encourage fenestrated leaves. He’s living by an east facing window

Ive had best luck in west facing directly in window. Perhaps needs more light? Idk i say that bc my east is mostly shade.

I’m thinking I may need to get a grow light for this guy. I only have east facing windows in my apartment ; they tend to get quite a bit of morning and early afternoon sun but sometime around 3pm things seem to dim. I’m wondering if it isn’t enough!

No need to trim. It will fenestrate more and grow bigger leaves as it matures. Just repot it into a chunky soil mix and place it in the sunniest window with the front of the monstera (it has a front and back) facing it. Supporting it with a trellis or moss pole is also a good idea. Don’t water too much as it likes to dry out a little.

Yes! I definitely need to put him into my chunky soil mix. Do you have any thoughts on “waiting to repot” after bringing a plant home? I always hear to wait a few weeks for the plant to settle but also don’t want him to suffocate in there

I don't know what's best in terms of repot timing, but I do know monsteras love right pots! So unless she's root bound there's no need to size up.

Yea no rush to repot. Though while it’s hard to tell from the pictures, I’m guessing there are multiple in there. So the sooner you repot the easier it will be to separate them. Mine had 7 monsteras in the pot when I bought it!

Fenestrations will come with maturity, I usually only chop the damaged leaves so the plant can use the energy for new growth. I would only repot if root bound or roots are coming out of the bottom of planter.
