Hi all! I just got my first monstera last weekend. I noticed about two days ago that some of the leaves started yellowing on the corners, and I’m not sure what factor is causing this? I have watered it once since bringing it home since it’s only been a week. Just looking come help on what the need of the plant may be? Thank you!

There’s a few reasons. Since you just got it, it might be an issue that was caused before you purchased it. It could be pests, fungus, or watering issues. Is the soil usually wet, how frequently do you water? Have you checked for pests? Have you looked at the roots?

The pattern of those is really weird. Did you get it from a store or a person? Ie can you ask if they fertilized it recently? Is there any crusty build up in the top of the soil?

I’ve stared at this pic dozens of time. I’ve never seen a monster do this. If I was told it was a new mutation, I’d have believed. lol I’m extreme, I’d take that plant out and check and clean the roots, give it fresh new soil, and cut off all those tainted leaves. The plant will look ugly for the time being, but I learned with plants, gotta be patient with time if there’s no issues it’ll bounce back.

Right!?! Like first I was thinking it was sun scorching, but some of the yellow is behind other leaves and vice versa. I have seen somewhat similar (not monstera) that are deficiency. But I don't think it'd crop up that fast. And then looking at the patterns being mostly near/ around the petiole (which overwatering is usually opposite) i was thinking it's from uptaking something, like over fertilized or coco product not being buffered??

My anthuriums do this when they are dying off sometimes. Gives a beautiful “variegation” before death. I’ve never seen a monstera do this. Like I said, I’m extreme. This would freak me out that I’d instantly take it to the garage and pull the plant and do a deep dive.

This looks really similar to what happened when I got mine. Do you live somewhere cold by any chance? I got mine and I think it got cold damage on the way home.
