Hi everyone! i recently moved in with a friend with a monstera they’ve had it for years (i think they said 6) and they’ve only been watering it. I think it has so much potential and they said I’m welcome to take care of it for them, but I don’t know where to start!! I think it has a big root problem and needs repotting… Any tips would be amazing, this is my first monstera!

    Chop it and definitely repot. Use a good chunky soil mix to avoid root rot. Keep it out of direct sun so those gorgeous leaves don’t burn

    It is definitely ready for a new pot. Only size up to about 2” bigger than the root ball. As mentioned above, use a chunky soil mix. A good potting soil, perlite and orchid bark will work. Nothing super complicated. Now is a good time to do it so it settles in before fall. Maybe get a pole to help support it as well, so that it grows up and it can push more leaves instead of legging out like it’s doing now. It’s “looking” for resources.

    I would chop him up and propagate him in water. Soil is fine too, maybe better, but I’ve always done water. Wait a few months till you have some serious roots. Then a tropical soil. Youtube is a good start on where to chop. You have a lot to work with.

    It certainly needs a repot and some stakes for support or a moss pole.

    If you do want to propagate you can cut at the red lines, but I personally would def repot and get a pole.
