Y’all I went to my local grocery store and as always walked by the plant section. I almost cried. There were 3 Monstera Deliciosa Thai Constellations. I picked the best one I could and got it home and see signs of root rot by the poor black root growing out of the bottom drainage holes. I pulled it out of the nursery pot and letting it air out. I’m scared to replant so soon but it is in crappy soil. Ahhh makes me wanna go back and buy the other two just to save them.

Cut off the rot as you are. Spray the roots with Hydrogen Peroxide (not diluted) then pot in the absolute chunkiest mix. Personally I have mine in a mix of potting soil, orchid bark and leca. Then it’s ok to water, the rot is gone atp and in new soil.

I’m so scared lol. I have 78 plant but I’ve wanted one for so long. Lol. Being a plant mom is not for the faint of hearts.

I totally understand, I got one myself recently and it may as well be my child lol Watering once it’s in a good mix is needed and won’t kill it I promise. That’ll help establish the roots into good soil. I’d consider adding a little fertilizer as well give it a boost after losing roots.

I have an earthworm casting mix that I throw into my chunky soil mix. Is that ok ? Lol I’m so nervous

I think sprinkling in some castings is a great fertilizer, perfectly fine.

I almost always repot right away, especially if it’s in a really wet, dense soil. 🫣 not saying I suggest it but personally I’ve never had an issue.

Agree - I always repot right away. These roots don’t look that bad honestly, I think it will be fine

Why can’t I be this lucky to walk into my local grocery and find one 😔… The roots don’t look too bad tho, it’s going to be fine with TLC

I got mine from an online garden center I trust at a decent price if you’d like to know the site. OP got lucky with just a touch of root rot from a big box/grocery store.
