Looks like thrips
0 LikesDead AF from The Plant Bar!! It's made from natural ingredients, so safe if you have pets! It also works WONDERS!!
1 LikeOh I’m so sorry- thrips really suck! But you can treat them-go ahead and isolate it from all of your other plants right away. Cut off any unhealthy leaves. Spray it off in the shower or with a hose outside to knock off all the living bugs, then repot into fresh soil (they get into the soil also and lay eggs) or spray the soil with insecticidal soap. Spray the entire plant with Insecticidal soap once a week for at least four weeks (to cover the entire lifecycle), and I mean spray it down THOROUGHLY- you want to get every single nook and cranny with it!
0 Likesor if the bottle of whatever soap you purchase says more frequently than once a week, like the one that Mary suggested, then follow those instructions. You can also try Jack’s dead bug brew, which is very effective but not pet safe so keep it away from pets if you have any and use that one. You can find it at any lowes/home depot. I have a ton of plants so to cut down on costs I make my own insecticidal soap using castille soap (some people swear by peppermint castille soap but I’d do some research first to be sure), neem oil, and rubbing alcohol (I just googled a recipe for the ratios), so that’s also an option and makes it safe for pets. Technically, you’re supposed to test one leaf with the soap and wait 24 hours before you spray it all down, but Monsteras are usually pretty good with insecticidal soap, plus I’m not sure how I’d save the plant from thrips if it couldn’t be treated with it 🤷🏼♀️

0 Likesthank you so much! unfortunately i’ve had a pretty bad infestation… had to get rid of a couple plants. really kicking myself as i noticed them deteriorating a few weeks ago and thought it was just because i wasn’t taking proper care! ordered some pesticide so hopefully that will do the trick.
1 Likefor people who own a lot of plants I think it’s normal to deal with this at some point! I lost a bunch to thrips over the summer and just chalked it up to a learning experience
