Hello! I’m new to plants. So any help would be wonderful! My monstera had fallen and broke a few stems. I put them in water to try and propagate them to later replant. I’m not too sure how long I should wait to re plant in soil. The plants in the jar are looking great but I’m worried about rotting. The one in a white mug is growing at an odd angle and I’m wondering if it’s safe to cut it to try that making it two separate pieces. It has a node on it so I would think it would be okay. But I really don’t know what I’m doing…. 😬

I think the one in the mug can be put into two separate pieces, but make sure that when you cut them you let the cuts callous over or they will rot in the water if you put them back right away. I wouldn’t be too worried about putting them in soil right away. I think you should let them develop more roots in the water and rotting shouldn’t be an issue if you change out the water frequently.

So just to make sure I got this right. For the one to cut, it should be alright it I let it callous over before adding it back into the water?

from what i’ve done in the past plus ongoing research, let them out over night when you cut a plant. then if you water propagate them leave them in here for a week or two for new roots then transport them into whatever soil you plan to use. that way it’s not super shocked and if you lose roots in the process you have new healthy ones.
