Any tips for getting a moss pole?
Any tips for getting a moss pole?
Looking to make your own? Or premade? I suggest whether you’re making your own or buying premade, make sure they have a closed backing. Most are sold this was these days.

0 Mi piaceSecond what Mr Variegated shared. Those plastic moss poles where you only have holes in the front are the best option. They retain moisture really well because the back is solid and closed. Also you’ll need to by spaghnum moss. When you get the moss, I would boil water and pour it over the moss to kill off any bacteria or mold spores. Mold can be an issue with moss poles because of their dampness

0 Mi piaceYou have to keep the pole moist always. Once you get that pole dry, it’s almost a nightmare to get it wet again as it becomes hydrophobic. If you keep it wet too much, you can get root rot. Easiest way to water is slow drip using a plastic cup with a few pin holes at the bottom placed on top of the pole. Easiest way to tell if your pole is moist is give the back a squeeze. If it sounds crunchy, it’s time to water. And as David stated, these poles with the backing retain moisture longer. Sorry for the long explanation.
2 Mi piaceUp side to poles is the plant grows way faster and bigger. Downside is extending, I had one over 9 feet tall. It was a nightmare. I tried to chop it and that was even worse due to the roots that had grown all the way down the backside. It stressed me so much I just chopped the top 9 biggest top leaves and are propping in water. Sorry for the rant.
1 mi piaceGet an actual moss pole and not the coconut coir ones. The Moss Pole has some nice ones. There are a fair amount of 3d printed ones out on etsy that are really cool and expandable too
