Should I mist my monstera? I see so many conflicting sides saying it doesn't do anything except allow fungus and bacteria to get on the leaves but then see people saying it helps them

There is no evidence that says that misting is beneficial for an indoor plant. You can argue that in their natural habitat, the humidity is so high and they will get water on their leaves… however the quality of airflow we have in our houses are not the same as the outdoors. If you keep your monstera outdoors, you can go nuts misting and it will be fine. It’s the same as if it rains and gets its leaves wet. Indoors, a humidifier or otherwise enclosed container is your best and most beneficial option.

My sister (she's the expert and I'm a newbie) said misting does nothing, but I've heard that misting helps keep dust off of indoor plants. So I only misting the plants with larger leaves, and I don't do so regularly.

Cleaning your leaves is a good idea for a house plants, misting won’t do much, it may even make the leaves dirtier over time by trapping dust or leaving water spots.

Misting helps new leaves that are unfurling. Otherwise, its hard to actually make a difference in the humidity by misting. I usually have a fan going so that helps with airflow but the leaves dry so fast anyways I don't think fungus would be a problem but idk. I would say the only reason you need to mist is if the new leaves are unfurling with little brown spots or looking slightly deformed.
