Hello! I need a bit of advice please- firstly is this beauty a monstera?!? I bought her the other day from h&m as she was reduced and i didnāt want them to throw her out. Secondly, it would appear she needs to be repotted as her soil is coming up and spilling over the pot line. Could i please have some advice on how best to repot her? I want to make sure she has the best chance at surviving! Thank youuuāŗļø
Yes. Itās a Deliciosa. 1-2 inches bigger than the root ball. My Deliciosa like soil that drains well. I use ariod potting mix I found on Amazon. I also used indoor potting mix with extra pertile in it. Bright light all day.

You can also attach it to a moss pole when you repot. It will give it the support it needs and new leaves will be bigger and fenestrated

monstera do much better on a wooden plank or trellis instead of a moss pole in my experience. they need a heavy duty support. when you repot, you may have to rearrange the stems, as monstera deliciosa have a āfrontā where the leaves grow and a ābackā where the aerial roots grow from. the support should be behind the plant, with its aerial roots facing towards it. be sure to use a very chunky mix when you repot, i use 1 part potting soil (or coco coir and worm castings) to 1 part coarse perlite to 1 part fir bark chips (āorchid barkā) adding a small amount of diluted fertilizer with every watering is the key to healthy monstera in my experience, they are very heavy feeders and will deplete all the nutrients in the pot within a few months if none is added. i use joyful dirt, which you can find on amazon, since it comes in a powder form and has added mycorrhizae. either mix a small pinch with water or sprinkle it directly on the soil. itās worth noting that while monstera are often touted as low-light tolerant, they appreciate quite a bit of bright light. the healthiest, happiest monstera deliciosa iāve seen are under grow lights 12 hours a day or right in a south facing window. iād suggest gradually increasing the amount of light your plant gets until it is right in your brightest window
2 gillningar amazing thank you so much!! i currently only have peat to use as repotting soilā¦ is this a bad idea? iāve seen that monstera can go into shock quite easily, and donāt want that to happen!! so should i go straight for the kind of soil you have recommended instead?
0 gillningar since peat is so dense it makes a pretty bad potting media for houseplants on its own, but if you use it instead of the coco coir in my above recipe it will make a pretty good soil. iād also like to add if you use fine perlite (the kind thatās $5 a bag at the hardware store) itās helpful to soak it at least 24 hours to let the dust settle, since the perlite chunks will float and dust and dirt will sink to the bottom to be discarded

1 gilla not sure i agree with this. i only avoid fertilizing if the roots are injured or rotting. most soil recipes (peat or coir based) are lacking in nutrients anyway so itās helpful to fertilize the new soil your plant will be rooting in
