So there’s a long story, but short story is I was gifted this BEAUTIFUL baby yesterday!! Any tips or tricks on keeping her happy would be appreciated! What type of sun should she be getting? Watering? I’m a newbie to monsteras in general, and I was gifted 5 different ones.

Well, the long story is - my husband and I bought our first home this spring. When we were in the moving process - our apartment complex let painters into our apartment 2 weeks too early, and they destroyed everything left in the apartment - which was my entire plant collection. I wasn’t able to salvage anything 🥹 I picked up all 50 empty pots and just cried. I was given a gift card to a plant nursery for the mistake but we all know that it doesn’t come close to the amount of money and love and years of work I put into those plants. So I just didn’t get any more house plants, but my mom surprised me with an entire new collection for Christmas. Over 30 different plants - some were babies of my original plants I had gifted her over the years. One of the most thoughtful and heartfelt gifts I’ve ever received.

Oh my gods, I would be devastated and inconsolably angry if anyone messed with my plant collection. Hopefully the gift card to the nursery was enough to cover all the damages. I know I've got a few plants in my collection that just can't be replaced. What an awesome mom you have too

I would’ve been heartbroken. We put so much time, work, money, and love into our plants. They’re not something that can just be replicated. It’s so wonderful that your family did that for you 🩷🪴 I hope your new collection can bring you the joy you deserve this holiday season

To say I was devastated would be an understatement, but I was so defeated I didn’t want to start over. The gift card was a nice sentiment, but it didn’t even begin to cover the damages. But I was able to get plants for the flowerbed at our new home.

With my Albo, I keep it in a north facing window. It’s pretty big (12” pot) and gets about 2 cup of water every two weeks or so. These plants are really easy to care for and don’t require a lot of particulars. I will wipe down the leaves with a wet clean cloth every couple of months. And I rotate the pot a quarter turn every two months. Underwater is ok. Overwater will show you lots of bad symptoms. You’ll want a decent moss pole pretty quickly. They grow pretty fast. The more stable the upper leaves the better it will produce fenestration and variegation (at least that’s what I’ve heard, my new leaves are very variegated but not much fenestration.)
