Can anyone help me with my plant? I am new to this and not sure how I can help it to feel better? Thank you 😊

Does the pot have drainage? What kind of soil? They like a little chunkier mix. Also, don’t water until the top 2” is dry. Just cut that leaf off.

It does have r drainage. How we since this was a gift I am not sure what kind of soil. I think it’s the water issue.
1 likeHi Tara, Welcome. In my experience I’ve learned that yellowing that begins at the tips of the leaves will most often indicate watering too often or sometimes not often enough. The way I determine which is to first “finger test” the soil. Then I consider how often I’ve been watering, the average temperature of the location, and any other cues from the plant. ie: If the tips are also turning brown and crispy then it’s most likely not enough water. I like to use a fork to gently loosen the soil around the inside edge of the pot first carefully working my way toward the stems. I find this helps me see the soil moisture and any other clues, like pests. It also helps dry out the top layer a bit faster. Yellowing and dropping leaves can also indicate not enough light. You may want to use the light meter within the site location to determine if it’s adequate for your plant. I hope this was somewhat helpful and wish you success 🪴

Thanks so much for the reply, I am following the app in terms of when to water the plant but it does not mention how much water. Sounds like it definitely is a water issue, I might have not watered if enough as I usually water it like a half of a glass.
0 likesGenerally, most plants (not all) appreciate a full soaking at the time of watering in addition to being allowed to drain fully before being replaced or the drainage tray is removed, drained water discarded and tray replaced if desired. There are tips within each of the plant listings that provide some guidance with watering, fertilizing, etc. For any plant I can move, I like to shower them off in the sink and allow them to drain in a large tray while I water others. I take time to look over the plant for pests or signs of fungus, etc. This is quite time-consuming and others may offer/recommend other more time efficient alternatives. Someone recently reminded me to focus on what brings me joy in my gardening hobby. Find your joy 🪴
1 likeIf you haven’t used it yet, tap on the icon I’ve encircled and it will take you to a guidelines page for care. Remember to keep in mind that they are guidelines. I have found some of them are identical and not plant specific. I imagine that’s a work in progress for the creators to amend at some point if they choose.

Thank you all for the reply.
0 likesHappy to be of some help. If I may… just fyi: Since using this app I’ve noticed that some guidelines are not always right for my plants. And I’m guessing I’m not the only one to experience this. I think it’s helpful to first think of the app as a guideline. You are the best judge. (I think the folks at Planta would agree.) Then consider things like weather, temperature, humidity, soil moisture, leaf firmness and color. Soon you will begin to see these signs of a plant in need or it’s best to snooze the action for now.
