Hello everyone, I am in desperate need of advice 🥹 my monstera Thai constellation is sick with brown thin spots on the variegated parts. I have no idea what the reason is. I am thinking it might be because I used fertiliser for the first time a few weeks ago but other than that I’m not too sure. I watered them before I left and when I came back after 5 days they were browning. My other syngonium albo also dried out :( Please any advice will be greatly appreciated!!

I’m not one hundred percent sure; but I was recently speaking with someone in a plant shop; and they said that the lighter pieces can do that if it gets too much light. Because of the lack of chlorophyll, it burns easily.

I may move to a darker corner of my room as it’s right next to the grow lamps, thank you for your advice!

The opposite of this is true. Due to the lack of chlorophyll in the white leaves, variegated monsteras require a higher amount of light to keep the white portions healthy. Monsteras can handle a lot of light. Unless you’ve had them in direct sun light, I doubt too much light is the issue here. How much light is the plant getting per day? Are you using grow lights?

Hi thank you for the information! Yes I do have grow lights and I have it on about 8 hours on a dimmed setting as I live in a very low light area, but I don’t have the monstera directly under the grow light, I have it to the side of it, as I was worried to give it too much light. Should I move it under the grow light?

The white parts for variegated plants are very delicate unfortunately. My white princess took a bit of a hit when the temperature got cooler

Ahh that could be it as it has definitely gotten colder recently. Thank you for advice, I may move it to a warmer area :)

No problem! I hope it helps. The best looking variegation is always so tricky to maintain!

I’ve always been told that the higher level of variegation, the weaker the leaf and the higher chances of it dying quicker. And in all of my variegated plants, it’s been really true and frustrating that my prettiest leaves get damaged the easiest
