I received this water propagated monstera a few weeks ago and it’s still alive, yay! I’ve just noticed this tiny yellow protuberance… is this fine? Obviously it’s not in soil. If it’s a new lead I fear it will grow down and not up. Any advice?

It’s an ariel root👍🏻

Thank you! Is there anything for me to do to care/support its growth, or I should just leave as is?
0 LikesI bury my monsteras aerial roots but that’s just because I don’t like how they look. In or out of soil the roots provide nutrients to the plant so it’s up to you

If you stick it in some water it’s really beneficial for the plant. It had access to water whenever it needs it

placing aerial roots in water has been known to cause rot, especially with rot-prone plants like monstera deliciosa

it appears the pole is on the wrong side of the plant. monstera have a ‘front’ where the leaves grow from and a ‘back’ where the aerial roots grow. they are searching for support so it’s best if they are pointed towards the pole

So the pole should be on the back? Ah, I had no idea. I’ve had it for only 2 weeks… if I take out all the soil and move the pole, will it shock the plant?
0 LikesIf you put the ariel root like on the moss pole it should grow into it! Could be worth trying to keep the pole moist

Moss pole! Do it. They’re climbers. And the leaves will get big. I like ‘Thiccly’ growpole. Good luck!

Thanks! Someone said I put my moss pole on the wrong side of the plant… should I take it out and re-insert? I’ve had it for only 2 weeks and worry if I take out all the soil and move the pole, it’ll shock the plant.
