First time owner of a monstera here! Somebody gave me this cutting which is currently in water. Will a 6” pot be ok? I’m going to buy a moss pole, which was recommended. What’s the best soil to use? Thanks!!

for all my epiphytes (including monstera) i use a 1:1:1 blend of potting soil (or coco coir amended with earthworm castings), perlite (rinsed to remove the dust), and fir bark chips, which are sold as “orchid bark” commercially

Thank you! I have orchid bark already, and can pick up perlite easily. Is the potting soil a tropical blend or standard that you’re mixing? And you mix it up when you pot the plant, instead of layering? Thank you so much!

i use standard potting soil and mix all the ingredients in a large container so it can be scooped into the pot easily. also since your monstera is living in water right now, it’s important to keep the soil media moist for a few days, and slowly decrease watering to help it acclimate and increase its drought tolerance
