Hi little monsters 😉 hope everyone’s good! I’m excited to see photos of your monstera babies, so fun to see all the different varieties. I have 2 monsteras, this one is the bigger one of the two and she’s growing new leaves like crazy ever since I moved her away from the window and up the hallway where there’s plenty of sun but not direct. The leaves look fine to me, they’re big too but they are all growing out and wide. How do I make them go vertical, even a little bit? Do I need a longer stake or tighten them up closer to the top? Appreciate any advice, thanks!!

Candy, your plant looks great! I see lots of new leaves which is always exciting. In the wild, monsteras spread out and don’t grow upright until they find a structure to grow against. This usually means it crawls out until it find a tree to support itself. A spread out, sprawling Monstera isn’t bad - mine used to be all over the place until I started supported it with a pole. I’ve seen transitioned it to a bamboo-horseshoe-type structure. It’s doing great! Now, to get it to grow upwards instead of sideways isn’t difficult. I’d suggest using a stick or any sort of standing structure and then taping the stems using floral tape. Tape the stems near the middle so the plant gets an idea that it can grow upwards while still supporting that stem. Hope that helps!

Thank you for your advice! Yup you’re right a monstera growing out wide isn’t a bad thing, it’s more of a space issue for me that’s why I was hoping to make it go a bit vertical. I’ve moved it around a bunch of times around the house, but the space its in now is its preferred spot and it thrives there (as you said, new leaves so yay!). I’m hoping to get it go up a bit so that it doesn’t get accidentally touched or damaged when people walk by it. I’m going to try your advice by taping the stems using floral tape to something upright. I appreciate the help!! And thanks for sharing your monstera pic as well, it looks great!
