I’ve had my Monstera for just over a year now. What can I do to encourage larger leaves with the classic leaf fenestration / holes? I’m thinking of repotting into a slightly larger pot and putting in a moss pole. Any other thoughts?

Bigger is not always better especially with aeroids! Honestly the pot kinda looks too big for that size plant to start. And do a plank instead of a pole. Imo this looks more like a lack of light than anything. I’ve had my monstera for a month and it’s put out a brand new absolutely massive leaf. Plank + more light! And make sure the root side faces the plank.

The leaf tilting down is my newest leaf. It’s only just gotten a darker green. Look how small my pot actually is! Your plant may be trying to grow roots actually more than leaves because of all the room it has, too. Focusing on that and fighting off root rot in a big pot likely has slowed leaf growth besides lack of light. Priorities aren’t right for it! If you choose to repot just pick a pot 1-2 inches bigger than the root ball.

This is very helpful, thank you! I’ll keep it in the same pot and try to get it some more light. Can you share why you recommend a plank vs pole? Any specific type of wood for the plank?

Apologies if you got a bunch of notifications oh my god; the app kept telling me it failed to send bc of links or bad language which I had neither but when I refreshed the page it had sent like 10.

Oh also go watch Kill This Plant on YouTube. Got my plank info from that guy. He’s got a lot of nice monstera videos

i am kind of ‘experimental’ with my houseplants but i’ve always had luck with my healthy monsteras just cutting off the smaller leaves to the soil, and working my way up the plant pruning to encourage bigger leaves with fenestration and higher reaching vines!!

here is how it started about two years ago. i have separated three separate plants from it that are 🙌, hence why i’m trying to rebuild the OG
