Hey! Just rescued this Monstera from a dusty greenhouse nursery, plants did not seem cared fully cared for- do these guys like bigger pots? I noticed this one strong lil root guy sticking out and I don’t wanna snap him by tucking him into the pot! What’s the best potting medium for Monstera in your guys’s opinions as I’m guessing he’s gonna need to be upgraded in size soon!

Hello! I just got one too! Based on my research you need to have fast draining soil. I personally mixed perlite with some indoor soil. Also, apparently monstera roots like to be a little more root bound then most. If you do repot, just go with a pot that’s an inch bigger. Make sure to get supports for it as well

Thank you so much! I’ll definitely mix some perlite with indoor soil, I’m gonna check the roots out regardless because I feel like it’s a big plant - labeled at 10” but the soil feels solid, old,and strange on top so I’m hoping it might benefit from an upgrade in size

It looks like you have multiple plants in there, so you would also want to consider separating them when you repot. They also do best when they climb with support, so I’d get some kind of poles in there. As for soil, it needs to be fast draining, and they like to dry out a bit between waterings. They also like a bunch of indirect light. Nice find!

The root you’re talking about is an aerial root 😁 You can tuck it into soil when you repot or leave it out, either has been fine for my monstera. It’s likely looking for something to climb
